Ski paddlers line up for the fifth annual Pub to Club event which took place on Sunday 15th July.
Contestants paddled down the Puhoi River to the ocean and then headed for Hatfields Beach for a registration check. From there it was a paddle back out to sea through challenging and choppy conditions which were best described as ‘difficult’, past Orewa then on to Red Beach where they finished.
First home were Orewa’s Andrew Towns and Zac Franich who finished 1,2 respectively. Vaughan Skiffington paddled home third. Kurt Leopard was the first under-16 ski competitor to finish while the duo of Mark Stephenson and Chris Tilman came home first on a double ski. The Muriwai crew were the only entry in the surf boat section.
The journey ended with a hearty cooked breakfast in the Red Beach clubrooms. To view photos from the event, click here.
