Red Beach will see a star-studded line-up of competitors at the next Owen Chapman Cup carnival in January.
The event will double as a selection opportunity for the country’s top surf athletes keen to make the New Zealand Surf Life Saving team for the World Championships. The ‘worlds’ are to be held in Germany in August 2008.
The Owen Chapman event, set down for Saturday 5th January, will be a great opportunity for competitors to show their skills and impress the NZ selectors who will be present at the carnival.
“Top athletes such as Paul Cracroft-Wilson and Morgan Foster will go head to head in beach flags and the beach sprint,” said NZ sport manager Mark Weatherall.
“Also featuring will be surf stars Dan Moodie, Glenn Anderson, Michael Buck, Steven Kent and Mike Janes.
“The women will also be keen to impress and the likes of Jo O’Connor, Nikki Cox and Lucy Pengelly are likely to attend,” he added.
