Cold, miserable conditions put a dampener on the first surf sports event of the season, the Long Distance Carnival held at Mairangi Bay on Sunday 11th September.
The weather conditions clearly affected the turnout of athletes, however, those who did well in the choppy surf showed the benefits gained from winter training. Around 26 runners lined up for the 2km road run which preceded the mass starts for swimmers, board paddlers, ski paddlers, canoe paddlers and surf boat rowers who competed over varying distances.
