Focus was on team building at Tawharanui camp

Team building was the focus of Red Beach Surf Club’s U16 Training Camp at Tawharanui Regional Park in mid-October.
Between 50 and 60 club members from the club’s U16 ranks, including parents, camped just 60m from the beach for two days of team building and getting to know one another.
A large number of the group were Rookies last summer and have now moved into the U16 division as qualified lifeguards.
A highlight of the camp was the Team Challenge, a mix of physical activities and intellect, including map reading skills, which was won by a team of parents.
“One of the things we achieved was to get the young people enthused,” said surf coach Vaughan Skiffington.  “We’re now seeing a healthy increase in the numbers attending mid-week training sessions.”
