Selectors to target surf carnival at Whangamata

Top athletes from Northern & Eastern Region clubs to compete at Whangamata in Sonic Race Series

The SeniorSurf carnival at Whangamata on Saturday 17 December will bring together competitors from surf lifesaving's Northern and Eastern regions.
Around 23 clubs and 400-500 athletes are expected to participate in the event which doubles as a national selection carnival and the first round of the Sonic Race Series.
Events on the programme:  Beach sprints, Surf race x 2, Ski race x 2, Board race x 2, Iron Man & Diamond events, Beach Flags, Taplin Relay (3-person), Surf Teams (3-person). A Mixed Novelty Race for the U16, U19 and Open divisions is also on the programme. Surf boats and surf canoes will each see three rounds of racing.
Starting with Whangamata, the Sonic Race Series will comprise of five rounds of racing in Ironman, board, ski, swim, sprint and flags. The top-10 Ironmen and women will have a bonus grand final during the Oceans ‘12 event at Mount Maunganui in late-February.
