Red Beach surf athlete Hannah Williams was just laying on the beach and soaking up the sun at Mangawhai Heads during late-afternoon on Tuesday 29 January, but cries for help from the water saw her training kick into action as she raced into the sea to help three men and a child stuck in a rip.

Red Beach’s JuniorSurf athletes have successfully defended the Northern Region Championships points trophy following two days of competition at Orewa Beach.
The club’s young competitors put in some sparkling performances to finish the championships 92 points clear of their nearest rival.
Close to 600 competitors aged from seven – 13 years, representing 10 clubs, took part in the weekend event.
Red Beach, with strength in numbers over all three age divisions, claimed the overall points trophy for the sixth consecutive year.
