Ruakaka Beach will see two days of top surf lifesaving action when the Northern Region Championships get under way at the weekend. It will be the eighth consecutive year for the event at the picturesque Northland location.
Saturday’s programme starts at 8.00 am with IRB events and Long Course Canoe racing. The 2km Beach Run for all age divisions, including Masters, kicks off at 12.30 pm, followed by surf races for individuals and teams, the mixed double ski event, ski relays, double ski races, board relays and ski & board events. Long course racing for boats starts immediately after the 2km beach run. Beach flags wrap up the afternoon programme.
Sunday’s programme commences at 8.00 am with beach sprints & relays to beat the incoming tide. They are followed by the Ironman and Diamond events, tube rescues, board rescues and Taplin relays. Short course racing for boats & canoes also follow the sprints & relays.
