Two Red Beach stalwarts were presented with SLSNR Service Awards at the recent Awards of Excellence night. Both awards were given for services to surf lifesaving at both club and regional levels.
Mike Taylor obtained his surf lifeguard qualification in 2003 and became involved in club administration. He was Red Beach’s delegate to SLSNR for six years and was on the Allocations Committee for three years. He obtained both the IRB Drivers and Instructors awards and was involved in IRB training. He has been club president for the past seven years. For the past two years, as a member of the club’s Building Committee, he has been involved in the planning and fundraising for the redevelopment of the clubrooms.
Mark Readman was born into a surf boat family and became a qualified lifeguard with the Whiritoa club in 1984. He joined Red Beach in 2001 and became involved with the JuniorSurf division where he has coached for 11 years. He has been a team manager for the past eight years and has served on the committee for the same period of time. And he has been the division’s gear steward for eight years consecutively. He is both an IRB instructor and examiner. He was elected to the JuniorSurf Organising Committee (JOC) for SLSNR in 2010. Mark continues to compete in Masters events.
