Surf patrols under way again from 17 December

Red Beach lifeguards will be back at the popular northern beach of Pakiri to continue their volunteer surf patrols from Saturday 17 December.
The Red Beach club is now entering its eighth summer of patrolling at Pakiri. The decision to patrol there stemmed from the club’s fast-growing membership and the ability to provide highly-qualified lifeguards.
Last summer, from 19 December to 8 February, the volunteer lifeguards at Pakiri carried out a record 30 rescues and attended to 13 first aid cases during the 1,440 hours they were on patrol. This summer's surf patrols will continue through to Sunday 12 February.
