Meet Caitlin Ryan at JuniorSurf registration days

When Red Beach lifeguard Caitlin Ryan enrolled with the club as a five-year-old it was the beginning of a stellar career in the sport of surf lifesaving which has propelled her into the ranks of a world-class athlete.
Parents who bring their children to Red Beach’s JuniorSurf registration days will have the opportunity to chat to Caitlin about her time as a Junior and how she climbed the ladder of success to become the club’s tenth Olympian and, more recently, a world champion kayaker.

Registration Days: Sunday 17th September and Sunday 1st October, 11.00am – 2.00pm, at the Red Beach clubrooms.

Caitlin spent eight years in the club’s Junior ranks, developing lifesaving skills that saw her become a highly successful competitor. In 2006 she won the SLSNR under-14 Sportswoman of the Year award as well as the Rookie Lifeguard of the Year award.
Also in 2006, on turning 14, she obtained her Surf Lifeguard award and soon found her strengths in ski paddling where she won a number of New Zealand titles. The next step was kayaking, an Olympic sport, and this paved the way to her representing New Zealand at the 31st Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
