Red Beach boaties off to Whangamata

30th December 2017

The New Year will see four Red Beach crews heading for the Whangamata Surf Boat Spectacular on Tuesday 2 January.
The event is Round Two of the NZ Surf Boat Series with 40 crews taking part. Racing is over a long course/sprint finish series in all age divisions.
The Red Beach Boomers will be one of a likely 10 crews in the Open Men's division, the Jedeyes and the Muzzies will row in the Open Women's division while the Rabbits crew will compete in the U23 Women's division.
The National surf boat selectors are expected to show an interest in what happens at Whangamata. They reserved their decisions on the selection of an Open men's crew for the 2018 Trans-Tasman Surf Boat Challenge following the NZ surf boat trials at Mt Maunganui in November. There was no dominant crew on the day of the trial, nor the first round of the series the day after.

The divisions to race at Whangamata will be Masters, Open, U23 and U19 for male and female crews. Racing starts at 10.00 am.

Round 3 of the series will take place at Fitzroy Beach, New Plymouth on Saturday 13 January in conjunction with the Central Region Championships.
