Red Beach, with 88 competitors, tops the list of club athlete numbers at this weekend's ERCs.
A total of 850 athletes from 34 clubs will compete on the sand and in the surf at Mt Maunganui over Saturday and Sunday. And for the first time, events get under way on Friday with a twilight session comprising of beach sprints, beach relays and double ski racing.
The Eastern Region Championships is one of the biggest sporting events on the SLSNZ calendar and athletes from as far away as Dunedin will participate.
Events on Saturday and Sunday will get under way at 8.00 am at Main Beach, with surf boat and canoe crews competing further south at Grove Avenue.
Monday - Anniversary Day - will see the country's top SLSNZ athletes return to the beach at Mt Maunganui for the 2018 NZ Representative Challenge.
