Midway Beach in Gisborne is at the ready to host the TSB NZ Surf Life Saving Championships which will see around 1,200 competitors from over 50 clubs competing on the sand and in the surf over three days.
Gisborne – where the sun first rises in the world – will witness a ton of action starting on Thursday 15 March when the Masters competitors will strut their stuff.
From Friday to Sunday, surf athletes from throughout New Zealand will be vying for more than 100 titles which will be decided in the Open, Under-19 and Under-16 divisions.
The Nationals were last staged at Midway Beach in 2015. Gisborne also hosted the premier event in 2012, 2009, 2007, 2003 and 2001.
This weekend, Red Beach will field close to 80 competitors including surf boat and surf canoe crews.
