Stunning success for Red Beach Rookies

Red Beach's Rookie members
have snared a quinella at the 2018 Rookie Challenge. The event, held at Mangawhai Heads in challenging conditions, saw Red Beach's two 5-person teams take out first and second placings.
A total of 16 teams entered the Challenge, representing nine clubs which included Red Beach, Omaha, Bethells Beach, Muriwai, Orewa, Mairangi Bay, Piha, Waipu Cove and Mangawhai Heads.

  • Scenario based assessment (5 person)
  • Recovery position assessment (5 person)
  • CPR assessment (1 person)
  • Surf Teams Race, with fins (5 person)
  • Tube Rescue Relay (5 person)
  • Board Rescue Relay (4 person)

The concept of the Rookie Challenge is to promote inter-club competition and camaraderie based around lifeguarding concepts taught within the Rookie Lifeguard programme.
Points are allocated for each placing in all events with the winning team being the one accumulating the highest number of points.
