Four Red Beach athletes with the Northern Region representative team in Australia have gotten into their stride.
The 18-person team is competing in the biennial Trans-Tasman Tri-Series against teams from the Central Coast and New South Wales Country branches.
Red Beach club captain Mark Readman is with the team which travelled to Australia on 2nd January. He has reported as follows on the three-carnival series:
On Friday 4 January at North Avoca Beach, NSW Country came home first, Central Coast was second and the Northern Region team finished third.
On Saturday 5 January at Umina Beach, NSW Country scored another win, Northern Region was second and Central Coast came in third. Just four points separated the first two teams.
"Our crew are competing well and taking a few Aussie scalps. They are getting used to the foreign gear and on Saturday they were a different team with the results showing it. The best (Saturday) results were ... Chelsea Grant won the beach sprint, Kees Kramer placed second in the Ironman, Patrick Makgill swam home second in the surf race and Blake Readman finished second in the ski by an inch. There's some very tight racing."
The third and final clash in the series is on Monday 7 January at MacMasters Beach before the team flies home.
