Red Beach lifeguards began their summer patrolling at Pakiri Beach on the weekend of 15/16 December to carry out surf patrols on a voluntary during weekends and public holidays. The patrolling period has been extended through to Sunday 31 March.
Last summer, patrols ended on 25 February but on a very sad note there was a drowning at Pakiri on the weekend after patrols had packed away.
Red Beach Surf Club is now in its tenth year of patrolling at Pakiri which stretches for 8km on the eastern coastline. It’s an hour’s drive north of the club’s Hibiscus Coast base.
Over the past nine years, the lifeguards have carried out 100 rescues at Pakiri.
