Red Beach will be big on numbers when the Northern Region Championships get under way at Omaha this weekend.
The club is fielding 88 Senior and Masters athletes who will be competing on the sand and in the surf over the two days of the championships.
And with the NZ Championships in Mount Maunganui just four weeks away, competitors will be giving it their all at the penultimate surf carnival of the summer.
With adverse weather conditions coming into play for the weekend, the organisers have come up with three possible programmes for events.
Saturday’s programme starts at 9.00am with surf races. The events that follow will depend on the conditions. The boat arena also gets under way at 9.00am with canoe racing over a short course. Boat racing is scheduled to start at 11.30 am.
Sunday’s programme commences at 8.30 am with either the Lifesaver Relay or Beach Flags.
Masters’ events also feature on the NRCs programme with points counting towards the Masters Competition Club of the Year.
