Nearly 400 athletes from surf clubs around the country will descend on Whangamata during the weekend of 7 & 8 December for the annual Whangamata Classic surf carnival.
Hosted by Surf Life Saving Northern Region, the two-day event has attracted some of the country’s best surf athletes. And for the second consecutive year, Masters events are included in the Classic programme. Competition starts at 9.00 am each day.
Saturday: Surf Race, Board Race, Ski Race, Iron/Diamond, Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, Beach Relay, Boats & Canoes
Sunday: 4-Person Mixed Board Relay, Ski Relay and 6-Person Mixed Taplin Relay.
The 4-Person Mixed Board Relay requires 2xMale and 2xFemale athletes.
6-Person Mixed Taplin Relay requires 1xMale & 1xFemale per discipline.
Surf canoe racing begins at 9.00 am and surf boats get underway on the completion of canoe racing. Canoes and boats will race only on Saturday.
There will be two points tables running; one for Northern Region clubs and another for all the clubs participating.
