Two IRB crews to compete at Ruakaka

9th January 2020

Red Beach will have two IRB crews
racing at Ruakaka for the 2020 Northern Region IRB Interclub event on Saturday 11 January.
The Raptors men’s crew will be joined by an all-female crew who will make their debut as the Red Beach Ragdolls.
Heading the women’s crew are Brie Downey and Emma Hildesley who will be joined by Teresa Sell as a crew member.

It will be 10 years since the club has had a women’s crew racing IRBs. In 2010, Red Beach lifeguards Serena Ball and Naomi Young competed at the Auckland Championships, also at Ruakaka (see pic below). Serena was Red Beach’s first female lifeguard to gain the IRB Driver award.

Back for their second summer of IRB competition will be the Raptors crew of Jonah Cleminson, Harry Mellor, Coby Moratti, Matt Hughes and Xavier Bradshaw.
Racing gets underway at 10.00 am with the Single Rescue event. Both Red Beach crews will compete in the U23 division.

Footnote: The Ragdoll is a cat breed with a colour point coat and blue eyes. They are large and muscular semi-longhair cats with a soft and silky coat. Developed by an American breeder in the 1960s, they are best known for their docile and placid temperament and affectionate nature.
