Omaha is the venue for the Junior Surf Northern Region Championships over the weekend of 1 & 2 February.
A total of 305 athletes aged 10-13 years are registered for the weekend’s events, and 14 clubs will participate, including three from the Eastern Region.
For the 63 Red Beach competitors, the carnival will provide them with the opportunity to fine-tune their skills before Oceans ’20 takes place at Mt Maunganui at the end of February, the national event which draws clubs from throughout New Zealand.
Two trophies will be at stake over the weekend at Omaha ... the Northern Region Junior Surf Championships Trophy for overall points, and the Cath & Eddie Millar Cup for points from specific events.
Red Beach has claimed the overall points trophy for the past four years.
Events at Omaha get underway at 9.00 am on both Saturday & Sunday.
Saturday’s events take in Beach Flags, Beach Sprints, Beach Relays, Surf Races, Board Races, and Board Relays.
Sunday’s programme has Tube Rescues, Board Rescues, Cameron Relays, and the Diamond event.
