Alert Level 4
of the Covid-19 lockdown came into effect nationwide on Wednesday 26 March. No water sports were allowed and all surf clubs throughout New Zealand were forced to close their premises.
As a result, Red Beach Surf Club has its committees meeting regularly via Zoom links, following the Covid-19 alert level guidelines announced by Government, Surf Life Saving NZ, and Squash NZ.
The country will move from Level 4 to Level 3 from Tuesday 28 April and this will bring in some changes.

In the coming days, club coach Jack Gavin will communicate with club athletes, via the Red Beach Training Squad Facebook page, the sport guidelines for Level 3. He will also be developing a plan – in line with Government/SLSNZ guidelines – on how and what surf sport activities can take place once we are in Level 2.

Krave Catering will be open for takeaways and deliveries from Wednesday 29th April. Watch for Krave’s advertising on their Facebook page as Level 3 approaches.

A working group has been set up to identify opportunities to drive revenue over the coming months. The club is looking at options that will meet Alert Level 2 mass gatherings (currently 100 people). We are keen to hear from anyone who has marketing, fundraising, bar/lounge initiatives that will help us develop a plan.

Surf Lifeguard Courses
Because of the lockdown, all lifeguard courses have been postponed until further notice. Nevertheless, we will continue to work on plans for when we reach Level 2.
To enable us to plan and budget, please contact info@redbeachslsc.com as soon as you can to register your interest in any of the following courses …

  • Becoming a surf lifeguard
  • IRB drivers & crew
  • First Aid Levels 1 & 2 and L2 refresher
  • Surf officials
  • Development courses and camps

Club Committees
For our Junior, Senior, Squash & Fundraising committees, the end of the season means the start of planning for next season. This is a busy time and the club is always seeking ‘new blood’. If you are keen to get involved in some aspect of the club, please contact info@redbeachslsc.com
Red Beach Surf Club relies on volunteers and without them, the club would not be able to function as well as it does.

Thanks from the Club ...

The club thanks all its volunteers for their contributions during the past season and looks forward to seeing everyone again next season. These thanks go to all patrollers, surf officials, beach coaches & managers, water safety helpers, gear stewards, trailer towers, BBQ helpers, and all other supporters and sponsors who help out around the beach, the club camp and at competitions. Red Beach couldn’t do it without you.
