Red Beach Life Member Graeme Danks has been awarded a 50 Years Service badge by Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
The badge represents 50 years of service to the movement which began in 1969 when he joined Paekakariki SLSC and gained his Surf Bronze Medallion. When he moved north in 1971 to settle in Auckland, he transferred to Red Beach and became involved in surf canoe competition. The move triggered the start of an illustrious history of service at both club and regional levels.
The honour was announced along with other national awards which were the main thrust of the SLSNZ Awards of Excellence.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, SLSNZ was unable to host the awards function at Wellington’s Te Papa Museum on Saturday 19 September.
Instead, the Awards were presented online by way of the organisation’s Facebook page, the first time in SLSNZ history that this has happened
Graeme Danks’ surf history is as long as it is impressive. During the past 50 years he has been honoured with the following awards.
