Red Beach has notched up
a record number of IRB Crewman passes. Nine more lifeguards gained the award at Muriwai on Sunday 30 May, taking the tally to 30 exam passes for the 2020-21 season.
The previous record was 24 Crewman awards, achieved in the 2018-19 season.

“The big waves on the west coast certainly tested everyone’s ability, however, the surging surf got the better of one of our candidates who sustained a broken ankle,” said the club’s IRB chief instructor Jonah Cleminson.
“I’d like to extend a huge ‘thank you' to Hamish Gledhill, Brodie Campbell, Rowan Gjaltema, and Harry Mellor for helping out on the water in the IRBs. Without these guys, the exams wouldn’t go ahead,” he added.
