Red Beach Lifesaving Manager Harry Mellor landed one of the premier awards – Surf Lifeguard of the Year – at the SLSNR Awards of Excellence night at the Cordis Hotel before more than 300 people.
He won the honour ahead of two other exceptionally strong contenders … Shannon Swann (Kariaotahi) & David Galuszka (Raglan).
Harry became just the second Red Beach club member ever to win this trophy. It was last won by Red Beach club captain Donna Murray 30 years ago for the 1990-91 season.
He will automatically become Surf Life Saving Northern Region’s nominee for NZ Surf Lifeguard of the Year at the New Zealand Awards ceremony at Te Papa, Wellington in September.
Congratulations, Harry, on your stunning win!
