If you're new to Red Beach JuniorSurf you'll hear lots about different events our juniors participate in over the season. To help, here's a brief outline of some of the top events for your kids to look forward to.

Ocean Athletes
National event for JuniorSurf athletes 10-14 years old. Held every year at Mount Maunganui. The Ocean Athletes concept was developed 10 years and has grown in size to become one of Surf Life Saving New Zealand’s most successful surf sport events. Close to 700 young athletes attend this national event every year, making it one of the largest children's events in the country

Cath & Eddie Millar Cup
Clubs from the Northern Region are eligible to field teams of 18, with each team comprising of six competitors from each of the Junior A, B & C age groups. Trials are normally held to find the best from each group.

Auckland Champs
Northern Region junior club carnival. A7's through to C13's compete. A, B & C group kids compete on the Saturday, then B & C group kids only compete on the Sunday. Points are allocated for 1st-6th placegetters and the club that accumulates the most points wins.

Champion Rookie Challenge
An annual event run by Northern Region and held at Waipu Cove in January. Its for 12-13 year olds in their last year of the JuniorSurf division. Contestants are judged on lifesaving theory, a run-wade-run, run-swim-run with fins and a tube rescue.

Junior Surf Camp, Mangawhai
Held in early January, this is a very popular 5-day camping trip at Mangawhai, open to junior members and their families. It’s a fun 5 days where the kids train daily in preparation for a northern region carnival held at Waipu Cove. The infamous Survivor Mangawhai teams' event is held during this camp also which stretches the kids both mentally and physically. It’s getting more and more popular with over 200 kids and parents from Red Beach attending this year.
