If you're new to Red Beach JuniorSurf you'll hear lots about the different events our Juniors participate in over the season. Here's a brief outline of some of the events your children can look forward to.

JANUARY

JuniorSurf Camp, Mangawhai
Held in the first half of January, this is a very popular 5-day camping trip at Mangawhai, open to Junior members and their families. It’s a fun five days where the kids train daily in preparation for a Northern Region carnival held at Waipu Cove or Ruakaka. The infamous Survivor teams' event is held during this camp and it stretches the kids both mentally and physically. It’s getting more and more popular with over 200 kids and parents from Red Beach attending the camp.

FEBRUARY

Auckland Championships
Northern Region junior club carnival held in early-February. 10-year-olds to 13-year-olds compete. Points are allocated and the club that accumulates the most points wins the Northern Region JuniorSurf Championships trophy.

Cath & Eddie Millar Cup
This is run in conjunction with the JuniorSurf Auckland Championships.

Rookie Challenge
An annual event run by Surf Life Saving Northern Region. It's for 12-13 year-olds in their last season of the JuniorSurf division. Contestants are judged on lifesaving theory, a run-wade-run, run-swim-run with fins and a tube rescue.

MARCH

Ocean Athletes
National event for JuniorSurf athletes 10-14 years old. Held over four days, usually at Mt Maunganui although in March 2018 the event will be held at Orewa. The Ocean Athletes concept was developed 17 years and has grown in size to become one of Surf Life Saving New Zealand’s most successful surf sport events. Around 800 young athletes attend this national event every year, making it one of the largest children's events in the country.
