Umbrellas and wet weather gear were a familiar sight at the Interclub carnival at Muriwai on Saturday 24 November.
Despite the rain which fell in spasmodic bursts, athletes made the most of the one metre surf that the west coast venue turned on.
The carnival kicked off with the beach events of sprints & relays then moved to surf races, followed by board and ski events which were staged over a 3-race series. Taplin relays wrapped up the carnival which concluded mid-afternoon.

It was the last opportunity for a hit-out for five under-19 Red Beach athletes who departed the following day to compete at the Lifesaving World Championships in South Australia.
Headed for Glenelg Beach in Adelaide were Sam Readman, Blake Readman, Jade Hughes, Camille Small and Ella Moratti. Attending the event with them are club coach Jack Gavin and manager Mark Readman.
