Three Red Beach crews head for Waihi Beach this weekend for Round 5 of the NZ Surf Boat series.
It’s the penultimate round in the series and a surf of one-metre plus is forecast. The event has attracted 63 crews and representing Red Beach will be the Boomers (Open Men), the Muzzies (Open Women), and the Rabbits (U23 Women).

A drawcard on the Saturday will be the annual Trans-Tasman Surf Boat Challenge where the national New Zealand and Australia teams will battle it out for top honours in what is set to be a thrilling weekend.
This year, the four New Zealand crews all come from Titahi Bay in Wellington. Competing for Australia will be the Avoca Beach crew (Open men) and the Northcliffe crew (Open Women).
The same Avoca crew competed in the Challenge at Waihi two years ago.

The weekend will also see the NZ Representative Surf Boat Challenge in which the Red Beach Boomers will represent the Northern Region in the Open men’s division. The event takes place on Sunday.
