2021 Pool Rescue Champs Programme

Tube rescue at the Pool Rescue Champs

What is Pool Rescue Champs?

Pool Rescue Champs is a pool-based surf lifesaving competition for B and C groups that runs in the winter. Red Beach’s junior programme teaches all the skills required to compete in the winter Pool Rescue Champs events.

The events are fun and involve everything from swimming with fins and tube rescues, to picking up and swimming with bricks and swimming under obstacles. You don’t have to be a champion swimmer to participate – it’s about building swimming and tube rescue skills and maintaining friendships and fitness during the off-season.

2021 Pool Rescue Champs Programme

Juniors will train at the same time as the club’s senior competitors, under the guidance of head coach Jack Gavin.

It will be a 10-week programme for those who want to compete at Northern Region events, and a 15-week programme for those who wish to compete at Nationals. All training sessions will take place at the National Aquatic Centre at the AUT Millennium complex. This will allow everyone to get used to the length and depth of National Aquatic Centre pool, which is where three of the four competitions are held during the season.

Not sure if Pool Rescue Champs is for you?

Come along to the first ‘give it a go’ training session on Sunday June 27, which will be free of charge. For those who have not competed in these events before, there will be a newcomers’ information session at 2.30pm. Head coach Jack Gavin will explain each of the events, how the training sessions will work and the expectations for both competitors and parents. Kids can then join the 3pm training session and try the programme out.
